San Casciano dei Bagni

San Casciano dei Bagni has been known since ancient times for the richness of its thermal waters.

The 42 springs that flow in its surroundings were discovered by the Etruscans and valued by Romans;  frequented by the feudal nobility in the Middle Ages, they reached the height of its fame between the Renaissance and the mid-eighteenth century.

The pristine environment, the lush forests and picturesque landscape surrounding it make San Casciano one of the favorite locations for lovers of rural tourism.

The medieval old town has a maze of streets, alleys and squares that lead up to the Collegiate and the Town Hall. The church of Santa Maria della Colonna, dating from the fourth or fifth century, is the only thing that remains of the ancient ”suburbium”, and set in the countryside surrounding, the spa zone.

Not far, the charming hamlet of Celle sulRigo situated on a hill that dominates the valley of the Paglia and faces Mount Amiata, leaving discover enchanting landscapes.
