Radda in Chianti

Radda in Chianti is a beautiful medieval village enclosed by imposing walls.

Situated on a hill between the valleys of Arbia and Pesa, it has ancient origins. Inhabited since the ninth century b.C. is mentioned in a parchment of the year 1002. Under the influence of Florence, Radda was the seat of the League of Chianti and of the mayor sent from Florence, as evidenced by the splendid Palazzo del Podesta of the 15th century, whose facade is decorated with coats of arms families.

The town retains the medieval layout with narrow alleys that come out in the town square where there is the Church of St. Nicholas, of Romanesque origin that has a venerated wooden crucifix of the 15th century.

Around Radda in Chianti are also many castles and beautiful churches, including the Castello di Volpaia, of medieval origins perfectly preserved, and the Romanesque church of Santa Maria in Prato with characteristic Romanesque capitals decorated with zoomorphic  and floral elements.

Today Radda and its beautiful surroundings have become a popular tourist destination for those who love good wine and nature. In fact, this pretty town offers excellent restaurants and wine bars where you can taste local products.
