Fattoria dei Barbi is one of the historical estate in Montalcino. For centuries the Colombini family worked with love and passion the land, cultivating, cereals and grapes, from which they made the world wide famous Brunello di Montalcino.
The wine cellar with its 300 wooden barrels and thousands of aging bottles of Brunello, is open to the public for over than 50 years, in which you can still admire the collection of bottles from 1870 to the nowadays, testimony of a continuity that makes unique our beautiful country.
Fattoria dei Barbi has always been a guardian of tradition, but also has been focused on innovation and a pioneer in every branch of enology: it was the first company that exported bottled wines in France (1817), the first to sell wine via mail Brunello (1832), the first to export it to America (1962), England (1969) and Japan (1975), has made the first "Super Tuscan" (BruscodeiBarbi, 1969) and created the first single-grape grappa (Grappa di Brunello, 1974).
The Colombini’s philosophy is to know and to study the brand new technologies and to marry them with the old traditions, in terms to improve the typical wine production.
