Somma Vesuviana

Somma Vesuviana is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania, southern Italy.
It has ancient origins, attested in numerous archaeological finds and one of the largest Roman villas where it is believed  the emperor Caesar Augustus has died, and is one of the most attractive municipalities of the Vesuvius area. The Casamale, its oldest neighborhood is still surrounded by aragonian walls. Here you’ll find the Ethnohistorian Museum of the Genti Campane, situated in the former Carmelite Sisters Convent next to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria in Castello.
Its soil is very fertile because of the proximity of Vesuvius, and that makes particularly delicious the local products, such as tomatoes from the Vesuvius, apricots and grapes from which they get an excellent table wine that accompanies the most varied recipes including Neapolitan stock fish, protagonist of the gastronomic event that takes place every year during the second weekend of October.
A Somma Vesuvius there is another museum: The Museum of Rural Life "Michele Russo"
