San Gimignano

San Gimignano, a small fortified city halfway between Florence and Siena, is famous for its architecture and for its beautiful medieval towers that make the city unique profile.

In the most prosperous period, the rich families of San Gimignano they came to build 72 towers as symbols of their wealth and power.

Today there are 14 of these that help to make even more fascinating the small town atmosphere.

Declared Patrimony of 'Humanity' UNESCO in 1990, San Gimignano is a small pearl of the province of Siena and also offers excellent local products such as saffron, olive oil and white wine called Vernaccia di San Gimignano.

The many museums in San Gimignano, for variety and beauty, represent together an itinerary of knowledge and confusion, between art, science and culture. Inside its museums is in fact secured a priceless treasure of history, life, sacred and profane, nature and death.

To visit the town located on a hill overlooking the Val d'Elsa, we can start from its main square famous and beautiful, Piazza della Cisterna, which is surrounded by houses and medieval towers and that was ideally at the intersection of the Via Francigena and the one that linked Pisa to Siena.
