Massa Marittima

Massa Marittima is a small village near the sea (15 km) on a beautiful panoramic hill, rich in art and history; the main square, where you find the cathedral, is one of the most beautiful in Italy.

During spring the landscape is framed by flowers and cultivated land with vineyards and olive groves. The view of the Gulf of Follonica and the Elba island is beautiful.

The old town is full of restaurants where you can taste typical dishes and excellent meat. The proximity to the sea means that the temperatures are always pleasant. The mining museum reminds us that we are in the metalliferous hills. There are many farms where you can come in contact with nature.

The historic center of Massa Marittima, surrounded by a well-preserved city walls, is one of the urban and architectural complex most important in Tuscany.
The square, gathers all the buildings necessary for the public life of a city at the municipal times (XIII century): the Duomo, the Palazzo del Podesta, the Town Hall in the upper town. The mighty fortress, built during the rule of Siena, stands with the Clock Tower. In addition to the historical-monumental  patrimony and museums you can enjoy a comprehensive range of options for hiking, trekking, cycle-tourism, horse-riding. The tourism market are dedicated the two most important summer events taking place in Massa Marittima: the Opera in the square and the Toscana Photo Festival.
