Colli Euganei DOC e DOCG

Colli Euganei DOC e DOCG

The Euganean Hills are a real natural and historical treasure within the Province of Padua. This is the countryside that inspired great writers such as Petrarch, Foscolo and Shelley, intellectuals whose works conjure up the enchanting beauty of our region.
The fortunate combination of volcanic soil, Mediterranean vegetation and human labor has made the Euganean Hills into a unique and special place. Here, every stone and every product of nature contains a story that you can discover thanks to an exciting journey amidst the delights of the Euganean Hills.

The Wines
The countryside of the Euganean Hills provides a splendid setting for the Colli Euganei DOC zone and its jewel in the crown: the DOCG wine Fior d’Arancio.
This hilly area, formed as a result of volcanic activity that occurred 35 million years ago, can boast of being the birthplace of Italy’s first Bordeaux-style blends. In 1870, in fact, the noble Corinaldi family planted the first vineyards of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc on Italian soil at Lispida.
Among the most representative wines of the DOC are Serprino, Colli Euganei Rosso and the whites based on Moscato grapes.
The zone’s DOCG, on the other hand, is represented by Fior d’Arancio in its three versions: dry, sparkling and sweet. The ancient Fior d’Arancio variety reached our hills many centuries ago after a long trip from the East, perhaps from Syria or Mesopotamia. Thanks to the passion and hard work of our winemakers, it has become the jewel in the crown of Colli Euganei wine production and earned the prestigious DOCG designation in 2010.

Colli Euganei DOC
The Euganean Hills are of volcanic origin, their typical cone shapes rising like oases from the Po valley in the province of Padua. A combination of mild climate, protected by the nearby Adriatic Sea, and the nature of the soil made of broken-up volcanic stones with a good, well-drained skeleton rich in minerals and microelements, has created an ideal place for wine-growing. Vines have been grown in the area from immemorial time and have had a strong influence on the landscape, which has been slowly but steadily transformed by the hand of man since the earliest settlements and by the uninterrupted sequence of communities, and flourishing, hard-working civilisations.
D.O.C. wines produced in the area are: Colli Euganei Bianco, Colli Euganei Pinot bianco, Colli Euganei Chardonnay and Colli Euganei Moscato (all also in a spumante version), Colli Euganei Tai, Colli Euganei Rosso (also in novello and riserva versions), Colli Euganei Cabernet, Colli Euganei Cabernet franc, Colli Euganei Cabernet Sauvignon and Colli Euganei Merlot (the last wines also as riserva).
Specialities of this D.O.C. include Colli Euganei Pinello, a straw yellow wine with hints of green, delicate in fragrance and fresh in taste, also in a sparkling version, Colli Euganei Serprino, also sparkling, a straw yellow, pale and bright wine, and Colli Euganei Fior d'Arancio. The latter is a straw yellow wine with hints of gold and a lingering, intense fragrance typical of its grape, the Moscato giallo, also available as spumante and passito.
